The average bridal makeup appointment in Australia now sits between $250 and $450, up from around $180 three years ago. Several factors are behind this, and knowing them changes how you approach booking.
What pushed prices higher
Artist insurance, travel fees, and the cost of professional-grade products have all increased since 2022. Many artists also now charge separately for trials, which were once bundled into packages. A trial can add $150 to $200 to your total before the wedding day even arrives.
Where genuine savings are still possible
Newly qualified artists charging portfolio rates are one of the more reliable options. They typically work under a senior artist or have completed formal training, so skill level is not necessarily lower — experience with high-pressure timelines is the main variable. Booking a Sunday or Monday wedding also reduces rates with some studios by 15 to 20 per cent.
The trial question
Some brides skip the trial to cut costs. The risk is real: skin reactions, unexpected product performance, and timing issues all surface during trials. If budget is tight, a shorter trial focused only on foundation and eye look is a reasonable middle ground rather than skipping it entirely.
Comparing quotes across at least four artists and asking specifically what is included in the quoted price remains the most effective starting point.
